Demo Nostalgia

My personal roots of gfx programming are in the demoscene.

Recently, some of my favorite old DOS demos have been captured, saved as AVI, and published online. Even today - up to 13 years later - some of them feature impressive effects or are just fun watching because of the nostalgic feelings that come up.

And as far as I can remember, they even looked smoother on my old Intel 486 rather than the todays AVIs due to several reasons:

  1. The AVI codecs suffer by some compression artefacts.
  2. The pixels on todays Flatscreen are too sharp, while the pixels on the old monitors got a bit of a nice blurry twist.
  3. They run in sync to the vertical refresh of the old monitors (about 60Hz) rather than the captured 25fps).
However, it is so great to get the spirit of the good old days back on screen! Enjoy!
